Chef Brian Jupiter shares his time, experiences, and thoughts with us on what it is like to be "Black in the Hospitality Industry." As a leader in the Chicago restaurant industry since 2003, Chef has seen a lot and done a lot. Not only has he led several cutting edge kitchens and restaurants, he also mentors youth through the Impact Culinary program. In this video, Chef Jupiter explains how opportunities and giving back can have chain reactions that can have huge influences on the future. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Chef Brian Jupiter learned to cook and love food from his grandmother. This passion led him to start his professional career at the age of 16 and eventually move to Miami, Florida to earn a dual degree in Culinary Arts and Food & Beverage Management from Johnson & Wales University. Coming out of college, Chef Jupiter moved to Chicago to become Chef de Cuisine and eventually the Executive Chef at Narcisse Champagne and Caviar Salon, then La Pomme Rouge, and eventually Executive Chef & Partner at the Pioneer Tavern Group, where he opened Frontier and Ina Mae Tavern (after his great grandmother).

You may have seen Chef Jupiter on popular television shows such as Cooking Channel’s America’s Best Bites, NBC Chicago News, NBC’s 1st Look, Fox 32 Chicago News, WGN-TV News, Food Network, and Check, Please! Jupiter also was named as a finalist for the James Beard Award Best Chef - Great Lakes.

In the coronavirus’ wake, Jupiter launched meal kits and virtual classes to expand his following while staying at home. He now keeps one eye on the future while adapting to the evolving "new normal."
