Convert Physical Shares into Dematerialization Format- In this video, we have explained the procedure in simple language.

In order to mitigate the risks associated with share trading in paper format, dematerialization concept was introduced in the Indian Financial Market. Dematerialization or Demat, in short, is the process through which an investor's physical share certificate gets converted into an electronic format which is maintained in an account with the Depository Participant.

SEBI has now extended the compulsory dematerialization of shares held in physical form to April 1,2019 from December 5,2018. Sebi has decided that requests for effecting the transfer of securities shall not be processed unless the securities are held in the demat form with a depository.
