Rhaenyra rides into Harrenhal, Syrax sweeping overhead like a crown of wings. The hall bristles with the army Daemon has raised. He steps forward, surprised: “I wasn’t expecting you.”
“A lapse in foresight, Daemon,” she answers, taking in the banners. “I see you’ve done well here.” (The castle listens.)

“They are sworn to me,” Daemon says—
“And to whom are you sworn?” Rhaenyra asks.

His voice lowers, and the room tilts: “The realm’s only hope is a leader who can unite it… and my brother chose you. You are the true Queen, Rhaenyra—First of Her Name, Protector of the Realm. I am meant to serve you, and all of these with me—until death, or the end of our story.” He kneels, and the ranks follow, steel and knees hitting stone in a wave. (A dragonlord chooses to bow; an army learns to breathe.)
