Terry Cummings, a power forward, started his NBA career with the Clippers in 1982. He was 21 years old as a rookie and the DePaul University product then scored 23.7 points per contest alongside 11 rebounds. He won rookie of the year and was on a cover of Sports Illustrated. In his first 10 NBA seasons he averaged at least 17 points per game. Cummings played in 1183 career NBA season games (815 started), averaging 16.4 ppg, 7.3 rpg in 28.7 minutes on the court. Cummings was named NBA All-Star in 1985 and 1989.

Cummings suffered from heartbeat irregularities, a condition that in some ways stopped him from being a superstar and a top 10 player at that time.
