Gaston Pong - ''Fireworks 花火' (Demo) Performance Video

I'd like to share a personal story on my birthday.

In 2019, I lost a friend to suicide.

Before he left us, we were on a work trip, sharing a room. One night, I asked him, 'How are things? Are you happy?' He hesitated for a bit and said, 'It doesn't matter if I'm happy, as long as the people around me are.'

He was that boy-next-door everyone liked, bringing joy and laughter to us. He blazed the night like fireworks, but darkness claimed him. All he had was falling. I still regret not understanding his cry for help. It’s been 5 years, and it still haunts me.

In 2021, I wrote 'Fireworks' in his memory. It nearly made it to my debut Mandopop album, but I gave it to Janice Yan, an incredible singer who could tell the story better with her dynamic vocals. I'm really glad she delivered it so beautifully. Her music accompanied my high school years, so it was such a moment to write a song for her. (And yeah, Janice is the voice of Little Mermaid of Taiwan. I’m so proud LOL)
