In my neverending quest to kill myself in the heat, I decided to test out a solar water heater. If I could boil water I could make water safe, cook food, and make steamy drinks. I wanted to test the Sunkettle against regular water bottles in direct sunlight and I wanted to use a thermometer to prove boiling was actually occurring in case you couldn't see the bubbles.

Spoiler: It worked. After 2.5 hours the water was boiling. I retested the next day and I achieved the same temperature on the thermometer (and boiling) so it wasn't a fluke.

I have not tested on a cloudy day. The test was run on a day with perfect conditions.

One system I was looking at cost $200 more than the Preppers Peak. That is why I labeled it "Inexpensive."

Can you use a stove? Yes. Could you carry bottled water? Sure. This is just a neat way to bring more potential to an off-grid situation or car camping.
