Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a common sleep disorder, in which breathing stops or gets very shallow during sleep.
These Breathing pauses last between 10 to 20 seconds or more.
Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when the muscles of the mouth and pharynx may relax too much.
Causing soft tissue in the back of the throat to collapse and block the upper airway.
This airways obstruction prevents sufficient flow of air into the lung.

Symptoms
Most people with obstructive sleep apnea often have symptoms such as.
Loud Snoring
Shortness of breath
Immediate or abrupt awakening
Morning headache
Daytime Sleepiness
Fatigue
Impaired Concentration

Risk Factors
Family History
Obesity
Small or receding jaw
Large neck sizes
Loss of muscle tone in pharynx

Dental devices hold the jaw forward and may be used for mild to moderate OSA.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine helps keep the airway open.

Surgery is usually considered only if other therapies haven’t been effective.
