Special guest, Todd Boland, author and longtime horticulturalist, will introduce Atlantic Canadian gardeners to the attributes of using native plants in their home landscapes and how these plants can benefit pollinators and birds. Todd is the horticulturist at the Memorial University of Newfoundland Botanical Garden, the Vice-President of the North American Rock Garden Society and an executive member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Wildflower Society. He has lectured and written on various aspects of horticulture and native plants internationally. He has written five photographic field guides on the wildflowers and woody plants of Atlantic Canada including ‘Trees and Shrubs of Newfoundland and Labrador’, ‘Trees and Shrubs of the Maritimes’, ‘Wildflowers of Nova Scotia’, ‘Wildflowers of New Brunswick’ and ‘Wildflowers and Ferns and Newfoundland’. Most recently he has written two gardening books focused on Atlantic Canada - ‘Favourite Perennials for Atlantic Canada’ and “Shrubs and Vines for Atlantic Canada’. Currently in the printing phase is a co-authored book ‘Gardening with Acidic Soil’. He joined the Canada’s Local Gardener editorial board in November 2020. Todd’s other passion is photography and birding.
