Naindanawa raja maha viharaya is situated near polpithigama, kurunegala district in Sri lanka. The history of this temple goes back to the period of king Devanam piyathissa.(250-210 BC)
Here You can see unique massive seven headed cobra carved in to a rock. it believed that this caving has been done during the period of king Mahasen.but some believes this carving to be a place of worship of the indigenous Naga gothra (Cobra tribe) going back beyond 6th century BC.
The temple area is surrounded by stones and drip ledges caves. You can see cave paintings and sculptures in the main cave that belong to kandyan era. very calm and quiet place to visit.
