President Joe Biden is among those weighing in on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. In a statement, the White House said in part, "The campaign of cruelty began on April 24, 1915, when Ottoman authorities arrested Armenian intellectuals and community leaders... In the days, months, and years that followed, one and a half million Armenians were deported, massacred or marched to their deaths." Pope Francis twice called the operation against the Armenians a "genocide", including during his 2016 visit to one of the earliest Christian nations. Turkey accused the Holy Father of a "crusades-like mentality." President Recep Erdogan says the US' use of the term genocide is a risk to bilateral relations. Deputy Director of Education at the Philos Project and a first generation Egyptian-Armenian, Simone Rizkallah, joins to remind us about the genocide that began on this date in 1915 and how it continues to impact Christians from Armenia. President Biden has referred to the Armenian genocide and Pope Francis has used the phrase several times. Rizkallah explains what other world leaders have said. She discusses how life is for Christians in Armenia. She fills us in on any final thoughts.
