When building a battle belt there is a lot to consider as far as necessary gear and/or operations.

In real world operations often times we added or subtracted gear based on our mission such as gas masks, extra pouches for 40mm rounds, crashes, etc.

Your gear is extremely dynamic, however there is a baseline of gear that should be considered mandatory which is determined by your basic gear requirements.

As Hayden states, zip ties are not required however when you train like we do, it is inevitable that your gear will break and we do not want our gear being lost or worse, the enemy being able to use it. Zip ties are cheap, compact, and light weight, so there is really no reason not to further secure your lifelines.
