Chevy Chase was a bonafide comedy movie star throughout the 1980s. But he yearned to show audiences his dramatic side. So he began development on a movie about a lonely man who turns invisible. The project began with director Ivan Reitman & screenwriter William Goldman onboard. They clashed with Chase and fled. Years later, it finally got made with John Carpenter at the helm. The result was an expensive, very visible mess.
