This video is bitter-sweet for me. I wanted to show case how on front lift rubbish trucks, the forks can be adjusted to empty smaller bins. Sadly my camera ran out of battery near the end and that is not where the troubles end.

After spotting a number of small bins lined up outside a shop on a street I normally do not drive down, I did a few weeks of investigating to find out when they were emptied and how. Once I had this knowledge, I put a plan together for how I'd like to best film the truck.

I arrive beside the truck just a little too late to get a stable shot of the ram attached to the front bar of the rubbish truck adjusting the forks before the action of flipping these smaller bins. The bins look to be around 660 litres (or smaller), similar to what is at my place of work, so I am unsure why the front lift truck comes to this site vs a standard rear load truck. That said you may spot a number of other front lift bins, more traditional sized, around this lot all for the same Waste Management company, so it might be a one stop pickup location when they too require servicing.

As mentioned, near the end and just before the driver of the truck readjusts the front forks back to their standard position, my camera ran flat having done some other filming earlier that day and not realising how long this stop would take; my phone camera was used to see the truck off - should have used this sooner.

Disappointed with my performance and missing one of the key stages, I found time to go back to this site for a second filming attempt. I pushed the boundaries too far, attempting to attach my action camera onto one of the many bins without asking permission. I had great success with wheelie bins earlier that week using this camera so hoped for some more unique footage.

Long story shot, I was asked to leave the site and not film on my second appearance at this location.

What have I learned: Even though I had filmed this truck and driver four different times over a few years before, never assume you are welcome to always film them at work. Always ask where able and be clear about your intents with all parties involved. Also carry your spare batteries on your person; no use being left in your camera bag in the car and if you had them on your person, this whole situation would not have happened.

My apologies for being a nuisance and an annoyance to the driver and shop attendance helping him switch the bins.
