The Old Royal Naval College stands on the site of Greenwich Palace, which stretched along the southern bank of the River Thames. The tiltyard where Henry VIII competed in jousting tournaments was constructed along the south face of the palace where the Romney Road now runs between the Old Royal Naval College and the National Maritime Museum.
