Meercats Zoo Zurich SWITZERLAND スイス

After the meerkats moved to Zurich Zoo in 2020, two researchers from the University of Zurich intensively studied their communication. They paid particular attention to the animals' different warning signals.
Meerkats are social animals, and communication plays a crucial role in their survival and in maintaining social relationships.
When meerkats discover a danger at their sentry posts, they communicate this acoustically to their conspecifics. The research group of behavioral biologist and professor Marta Manser from the University of Zurich studied the communication of meerkats in the zoo.

The behavioral biologist Manser is considered one of the world's leading meerkat experts. In addition to her work at the University of Zurich, she heads research at the Kalahari Research Centre in South Africa. Zurich Zoo supports her research activities at both locations.
She has been studying these small predators scientifically for thirty years.
