Frombork is a town in northern Poland,
situated on the Vistula Lagoon in Braniewo County, within Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
The town was first mentioned in a 13th-century document.
In the early 16th century it was the residence of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.
He used it as a site for several of his observations.
The town and its 14th century cathedral were badly damaged in World War II
After the war the cathedral was meticulously reconstructed and is again a popular tourist destination.
Nicolaus Copernicus was born on 19 February 1473 in the city of Toruń ,
in the province of Royal Prussia, in the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland.
Copernicus spent 33 years of his life in Frombork.
He held a high position in the church.
Currently, there is a restaurant in his house.
Here he wrote his most famous work "De revolutionibus orbium coelestium"
Its first edition was printed before Copernicus' death.
Copernicus was buried in Frombork Cathedral.
His tomb was destroyed during the wars in the 17th century.
His remains were found on the basis of DNA tests from the preserved hair.
Its real appearance was recreated from the construction of the skull.
On 22 May, 2010, Copernicus was reburied in this place of the cathedral.
