I started this a few days after Nalu came home since I only had a month before the 5th of July and I want her to be prepared. Today’s session was all about desensitization through positive exposure and careful observation of body language.⁣ ⁣ I gave both dogs a pupsicle to enjoy while playing firework sounds on the TV, starting at a low volume and gradually increasing it over time. This method allows them to associate the sounds with something positive, not scary.⁣ ⁣ Here’s what I was looking for in Nalu and Sebastian’s body language before turning up the volume: • Soft, loose body • Hips shifted to the side while laying down • Ears in a neutral position (not pinned back) • No pacing, lip licking, or yawning ⁣ If Nalu showed signs of stress, I would’ve turned the volume down or ended the session. However, since she remained relaxed, curious, and even moved on to chewing her bullystick after she finished her pupsicle, we were able to increase the volume slowly and end on a calm note. ⁣ 🚨Reminder: desensitization takes time. Always go at your dog’s pace and watch their body language closely.
