🔸What are Treasury Bills?

Treasury bills or T-bills, which are money market instruments, are short term debt instruments issued by the Government of India and are presently issued in three tenors, namely, 91 day, 182 day and 364 day.

You'll get your Investment back once the tenure of your T-bills expire which is 91, 182, 364 days. Although as it directly comes in your demat account you can also sell these off in the secondary market also.0

➡️ How to Invest in T-bills?

You can either do it with some existing brokers like Zerodha, Upstock etc via your demat account, there's one another procedure where you can buy these Instruments directly from the RBI Itself i.e. through RBI Retail Direct Scheme Portal.

🔸Individuals can now directly purchase treasury bills, dated securities, sovereign gold bonds (SGB) and state development loans (SDLs) from primary as well as secondary markets, thanks to the RBI Retail Direct Scheme.

🔸As per the scheme, retail investors (individuals) will have the facility to open an online Retail Direct Gilt Account (RDG Account) with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). These accounts can be linked to their savings bank accounts.

🔸The RDG Accounts of individuals can be used to participate in the issuance of government securities and secondary market operations through the screen-based NDS-OM.

The Reserve Bank Of India’s recently launched Retail Direct Scheme is generating considerable interest among investors. With the introduction of this RBI Retail Direct scheme, retail investors can now buy and sell government securities (G-Secs) directly through the RBI Retail Direct Portal. Till now, retail investors could invest in government securities only through intermediaries like brokers or mutual funds.
