Nova Scotia Family History Overview

Finding your Nova Scotia Acadian ancestors overview. Having done a lot of family history work in Eastern Canada I see there is a need to help others find their roots. Many of the folks from Nova Scotia moved to Massachusetts and New England over the last few hundred years. The records in the USA tend to just have birthplaces for these immigrants as Canada, or maybe even Nova Scotia. That is pretty general information and not a great help in finding your relatives. Add to this that the French Acadians used anglicized names when they arrived in the USA. So your last name may be White, Wedge, King, Pitts but when you look for the name in Nova Scotia you do not find your ancestor in the records there as they are LeBlanc, Aucoin, Roy, Petitpas. You also need to know what part of the province to find those that had that last name. This first video is a brief overview of the history of Nova Scotia and how the people arrived there and where they went to, with an emphasis on the Acadian people. I will try to add some more detailed videos about specific Names and Places there.
