Idles' new record CRAWLER came out Friday and I haven't stopped listening and learning since. There are so many standouts on the record that it's hard to pick a favorite, but "The Wheel" is one that's stuck with me since hearing it live just a few days prior to the album release. I swear, this band + baritone guitars = the biggest B note ever recorded. Or live –– when they hit that first huge chorus I screamed. What a show.

For this one I fired up the HX Stomp's "Line 6 Doom" model which is a Sunn Model T, which Bowen was using at the final show of the tour. Pairing that model with my trusty Creston Lea baritone "Vader" Jazzmaster got me in the right sonic space with very few tweaks. That Lollar Thunderbird in the bridge is perfectly massive and perfectly dark. For the chorus, I kicked on my Mother Mary "The Fly" octave fuzz, a pedal that's both blooming and snarly, adding that lovely top end complexity that feels like an amp imploding on itself.
