Getting Started with Paginated Reports 101: Part 3 (2023) - Building a Matrix from Scratch

Now that your paginated report has a defined data source (a Power BI Dataset available in the Power BI Service), it’s time to build out your dataset in the query designer.

This seemingly simple stage can be fraught with potholes; let’s go through what’s happening in the Paginated report’s query designer and compare it to how a seemingly similar process (building a table visual in Power BI Desktop) works differently under the hood. Then we’ll build out the “meat” of our report by using our new dataset to populate a matrix in our paginated report.
