Southern 100 Ace Hire Sidecar Race, Isle of Man

The Ace Hire Sidecar Race got underway in almost perfect conditions, with just one or two damp patches lingering under the trees in a couple of places on the circuit. Lokked like it was going to be a great race until the red flags came out on lap 3 due to an incident at Joeys Gate next to Ballanorris. The results were declared without the need for a restart.
The result for the Ace Hire Sidecar race, and it’s Ben Birchall & Kevin Rousseau who take the win!
Pete Founds & Jevan Walmsley are in second and taking third on the podium is Michael Russell & Jake Roberts!

He and Rhys Gibbons were involved in red flag incident yesterday (11 July)

Sidecar competitors Alan Founds and Rhys Gibbons are thanking fans for their support following a crash at this year's Southern 100 Road Races.

The pairing were involved in an incident at Joey's Gate on the Colas Billown Circuit during the Ace Hire Sidecar Race which resulted in the race being red-flagged.

The driver was uninjured whilst the passenger was reported as conscious and talking at the scene before taken to Noble's Hospital for further treatment.

In an update this afternoon (12 July), Founds says: "Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for the messages and support we have received after our Red flag incident in race 1 yesterday.

"Unfortunately I clipped the curb and ended up going through Joeys gate luckily just kissing the wall on entry, this flipped the bike upside down a few times, with Rhys becoming a ragg doll into the field.

"Rhys was taken to Nobles for a full mot and we're pleased to say although very second hand this morning we're here to tell the tale.

"We were having a good race upto untill this point lying in 3rd so apologises to all our sponsors and supporter's for giving you all a scare.

"Thank you to all the medics and track staff at Southern 100 Road Races for the swift attention and care we received.

"Bike is going to need some attention and we will fully assess the damage upon return home."
