Dr Neil Dixon and his colleagues at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology use state of the art biotechnology to convert waste into valuable materials, which include polymers, pharmaceuticals, and fragrances. These advanced biorefinery processes have the potential to eliminate our dependency upon petrochemical feedstocks and reduce the amount of waste that ends in landfill or incineration.
