(VO) On W Onondaga St. Close to downtown, surrounded by 3 distinct and diverse neighborhoods, is Salt city Coffee. a coffee shop Aaron Metthe opened in March of 2017 paying tribute to Syracuse's history

SB “it’s kind of a homage to the Syracuse industry, back in the day, A lot of the early wealth and building up of the city was do to the salt mining industry.”

(VO) Syracuse had salt springs and was a top salt producer in the country for much of the 19th century. Hoping to be as successful, Aaron began roasting coffee as a hobby and quickly turned it into a business. A shop brewing up more than a cup of joe.

SB “when we decided to open up the shop, we wanted a way to include all of the community. Part of the community that comes in and orders coffee, food and sit down and have a good time but there also people that walk by this place that can't afford a cup of coffee so we want to provide an opportunity for everyone who comes by here to have a cup of coffee.”

(Stand up) The way it works is simple. A customer asked to pay it forward. They will get a token to place here on the pay it forward board. Anyone in need of a little pep in there steps just ask to redeem one of the tokens. We all can certainly agree that Coffee and a smile makes the perfect blend.

SB “Everyone deserves to feel welcomed and to feel accepted and if that is only as little as a cup of coffee if we can provide that, we are happy to do that.”
