It was the end of summer or beginning of autumn when I walked thru the edge of a park and recorded these light purple New England Asters (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae) blooming. They are also called Michaelmas Daisies.
According to Wikipedia: "It is native to almost every area in North America east of the Rocky Mountains, but excluding the far north of Canada as well as some of the southern United States." and "was introduced to Europe in 1710; a common garden escape, it has naturalized along roadsides and on disturbed ground."

It is similar in appearance to the European Michaelmas-daisy (Aster amellus).

It used to be a member of the Aster genus before being moved to the Symphyotrichum genus, as well as other species.
