What do you do when God feels distant, your prayers seem unanswered, and your heart is filled with sorrow? In this sermon from *Psalm 13:1–6**, we walk through the *biblical language of lament and discover how God invites us to bring our honest pain to Him—and how that very process leads us back to praise.

Using David’s cry, “How long, O LORD?” as our guide, we explore three movements of lament:

1. Go to God in Honest Prayer – Bringing your raw questions, fears, and confusion before God without pretending to be okay.
2. Go to God in Honest Petition– Asking God to consider, hear, and enlighten your eyes in the middle of your suffering.
3. Go to God in Honest Confidence – Learning to trust God’s steadfast love, rejoice in His salvation, and sing because He has dealt bountifully with you.

Along the way, we look at how:

Many believers feel uncomfortable with grief and sorrow in worship.
A large portion of the Psalms are actually Psalms of lament.
Jesus Himself lamented with “vehement cries and tears” (Hebrews 5:7) and in Gethsemane (Mark 14:32–36).
Lament is not the opposite of praise—**lament is the path to praise**.
