Goodbye starting chain - hello starting cord! I’ll show you how to estimate the length/width of your project before you start crocheting with this easy trick. Crocheted starting cords are sturdier than chains and they have a little bit more stretch. Personally, I prefer to crochet a starting cord rather than beginning with a long chain or foundation single crochet when I’m crocheting something like a blanket or scarf. I don’t know about you but I hate long starting chains and I avoid them whenever I can. I often make simple blankets and if I use a starting chainI constantly have to stop and measure my chain, to see if I’m getting close to the right length. So instead I like to use a starting cord. I measure out my yarn before I start, then just crochet away, not worrying about the length, just keeping track of the pattern multiple. It’s one less thing to worry about.
