Ama Jetsun Pema la worked to develop the Tibetan Children's Village network of schools for over 40 years and was the first female Kalon to serve in the Exile Tibetan Government. Her visionary and determined work include the building of an integrated community for the care and education of Tibetan refugee children, support systems for Tibetan college students, and the opening of the first Tibetan college in India. Ama la talks to VOA about the daunting task of taking over as head of TCV at the age of 18 and the challenges she faced during those early years.
