Daniel Etim-Effiong steps behind the camera for his feature directorial debut, The Herd, a film that confronts the insecurity and violence plaguing Nigeria today.

The Herd follows a couple and their best man whose wedding day spirals into a kidnapping ordeal, opening the door to a wider look at love, betrayal, survival, and the systems that fail ordinary people.

Starring Genoveva Umeh, Kunle Remi, Daniel Etim-Effiong, Adam Garba, Jaime Kuti, Mercy Aigbe, Linda Ejiofor-Suleman and more, the film unfolds through multiple perspectives — the victims, their families scrambling to raise ransom money, and the kidnappers dealing with their own internal fractures.

From false pastors to broken banking rules to the brutal reality of extremist violence, The Herd packs several interwoven themes into its runtime. It’s less about the couple at the centre and more about everyone impacted by the crime, and how one violent act ripples outward.

Released in cinemas on October 17 and now streaming on Netflix Nigeria on November 21, The Herd is a timely and bold debut that aims to say something about the times we live in.
