This gorgeous 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396/375HP “L78” is one of only 4,575 produced and one of only three to ever achieve the prestigious Legend Certification from the Camaro Nationals. The Legends Concours Class is the highest level of judging for a Camaro. This amazing example has been certified as authentic by Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance. The report and Certificate of Authenticity dated March 24th, 2023 is included. This car retains its original VIN tag and trim tag. In 1968, the Camaro with the 396/375HP “L78” option was the most powerful Camaro offered. In 1968, Chevrolet did also offer 272 examples with a 396/375HP “L79” option which included aluminum heads for lighter weight. As the copy of the NCRS Shipping Data Report indicates the GM official production date of this car was October 20th, 1967. The car was ordered with a Cordovan Maroon exterior with an early production white Super Sport bumble bee stripe and a black standard bucket seat interior. Only 3.4% of all Camaro’s produced in 1968 were painted Cordovan Maroon. The car was discovered in Fly, Ohio and purchased by Frank Simmons in 2011. Frank understood how significant this car was and wanted to restore it to the highest level. He connected with well-known Camaro restorer Ken Lucas of Lucas Restorations located in Phoenix, Maryland. Ken Lucas is very close friends with Jerry MacNeish who assists whenever needed. The car was the product of a rotisserie nut and bolt restoration that was completed in June of 2014. Photos of the restoration are included. It was shown at the 2014 Camaro Nationals in the Bow Tie Judging Class where it received 983 of 1000 points. It was invited to the Camaro Nationals Legends Concours Class Judging in 2015 and then again in 2016 where it achieved a top score of 95.50%. The judging information is included. The Legend Certification is documented on the Camaro Nationals website and included. Since completion it’s been driven 142 test miles.

The exterior of this first generation Camaro is stunning with its simple but iconic design. The body work and paint work was completed by Jerry’s Hot Rods in Hampstead, Maryland. During the restoration most of the sheet metal was replaced. The body is really straight and the gaps are precise. The hood, doors and trunk lid close very nicely. The car was refinished in its original color of Cordovan Maroon with a white Super Sport bumble bee stripe. The paint is beautiful and was recently detailed to a show quality shine by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS. The windshield, door glass, quarter glass and rear window is new with factory stamps. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced. The car has a killer stance on 14” painted steel wheels with chrome hub caps and Firestone Super Sport Wide Oval Redline F70-14 tires. Everything on the exterior is in working order.

The simple styling flows into the interior when you open the doors. The entire interior was refinished in its original color of black. The wood steering wheel and wood center dash add a touch of class. Everything in the interior was restored or replaced. Everything in the interior is in working order. The trunk compartment was beautifully restored with the correct trunk lid stickers and splatter paint. It’s been outfitted a matching spare tire and jack tools.

The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. The backside of the hood is covered with the correct insulation. The firewall, inner fenders and radiator support was refinished in the correct shade of black. The car is powered by its original matching numbers 396 V8 engine that was rated with 375HP. The engine has been completely rebuilt and runs excellent. It was recently tuned by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS. The engine has a #323 casting number and original assembly stamping is #T1012MQ and VIN #18N330663 on the engine deck pad. The engine has the original factory equipped #069 intake manifold and original valve covers. Some of the date code correct parts include the distributor #1111170, dated 7G11, alternator #1100814, dated 7H10 and voltage regulator, dated 7K. The engine is cooled by the correct radiator with original fan clutch and blade, dated 10-2-67. The engine sounds excellent through the correct exhaust manifolds and dual exhaust system. The engine is coupled to a correct 4-speed Muncie transmission with #P8P08 assembly date. The power is transferred to the original matching numbers 12-bolt axle with 3.73 positraction with #BU1004G2 assembly date and #860NF casting, dated I17.

The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout with many correct parts.
