ADDENDUM:

1st- I want to mention temps which I didnt do in the video.
Best temps for superworms to thrive and beetles to breed is low to mid 80s. Also make sure to never leave your superworms in direct sunlight, it will kill them.

2nd- I touched on this briefly at the end, but I cant stress it enough. KEEP ENCLOSURES CLEAN!

Clean = Healthy... Always.

Remove rotten moisture items, remove sheds, remove any dead worms. Weekly cleans and spot checks every few days is your best bet to keeping things properly maintained.

If you keep your enclosures clean, you will keep your worms healthy. Healthy worms will live an incredibly long time and provide fat healthy feeders for your animals.

If you let your boxes get nasty with tons of old moisture items and sheds and crap. Youll likely get mites, a ton of your worms will die, your boxes will stink like hell, and all your work will go down the drain.

SO KEEP IT CLEAN!!!

3rd- Last thing I want to mention is beetles lifespan. When I was first started gathering information about breeding, I spoke to a guy who breeds them commercially (thousands of worms) and sells them to pet stores. He said they tend to only live a few weeks, but in my experience since making this video, my average beetle lives closer to 8 -12 weeks...MOST of the time. I have had, on occasion, a few beetles live over 5-6 months. It gets hard to know exactly how long they are living once you have the colony going, youre constantly adding new 'batches' of beetles to the mix. Also the beetles will canabalize their dead. My best guess for such a drastic difference from my experience and his is that the massive beetle farm he runs is tough to keep clean and sanitary and in poorer conditions the beetles simply die sooner.

SYNOPSES of MY experience:

PHASE ONE: MORPHING SUPERWORMS
-Day 1 Separated each superworm into individual housing.
-Day 7 First Superworms morphs into Pupa.
-Day 11 Majority of Superwoms in Pupae stage.
-Day 21 First Pupa morph into Beetles.
-Day 26 Remaining Pupae morph into Beetles. -All Beetles now moved from Individual housing containers into community breeding boxes.

PHASE TWO: BREEDING DARKLING BEETLES
-Beetles placed on 2 inches of raw oatmeal in 1x1ft space.
-Beetles will start breeding after eating food/moisture item.
-Beetles breed in boxes until death.

PHASE THREE: RAISING AND KEEPING SUPERWORMS
-Old breeding box now used as nursery.
-Eggs hatch in roughly 2 weeks.
-Maintain oats and moisture items.
-3 weeks later barely visible superworms appear.
-Week 5-6, new superworms now big enough, to move into main "feeders" box.
-SUCCESS!

Rinse and Repeat.

My Superworm/Beetle Housing:
-Individual housing done in 36 slot tackle organizers.
-Breeding boxes/general housing for superworms in a 1x1ft, 3 drawer Sterlite box system.
-All drawers filled with 2 inches of uncooked oatmeal.
-Beetle breeding drawer ONLY contains "hides". -Egg Cartons -Old Toilet Paper Rolls -Old Paper Towel Rolls
