MORE IMPORTANT INFO, PLEASE READ: do not become a hoarder or a shopping addict. It's easy to get swept up in the thrill of the hunt and stop paying attention to how much you're spending or how many turns the labyrinth leading from your bedroom to the fridge has. If you're regularly spending a lot of money on books, you can get yourself in trouble.

Making these huge purchases should probably be an occasional indulgence for most people, or a way to jumpstart a collection. I did it all the time because I was a full-time reseller and it paid my rent.

If you can't scan books or don't want to, searching them manually on Ebay will also tell you a lot. Look at how many of that title have sold. The more the better. Judge the book's value based on the prices of the sold listings, not what people are asking for unsold copies. Always keep in mind that it is NOT GUARANTEED that someone will buy the books you're selling. Also, you are supposed to report online marketplace sales on your taxes. Especially if you plan to scale reselling up to a side business, look into local, state and federal laws about registering as a business and getting resale permits.
