Test: Maiden Flight

So, here is the maiden that was supposed to take place two days ago. I didn't get it done then because I chickened out when I got there. There were 15 mph winds, gusting to 25 mph, and even though I knew I could take off and land in those conditions, they did not lend themselves to a maiden flight, where most unexpected things always seem to happen. So, I figure that it would only take on variable (like a channel (ie, Elevator) mapped in reversed) to go wrong and I could be in trouble when you add gusting wind. I learned this the hard way during the XAircraft X650 maiden. I had 2 channels reversed and paid for it by losing 1 ESC and all 4 props.

I went out to fly today, but as I mention in the video, the location I intended to shoot at had 30 mph winds sustained, and gusting to 40 mph. The weather channel predicted this, and I had no intentions of flying today, but I don't like to let my fully charge batteries sit for long (2-3 days MAX), so I drove back to my home, which is in an area that had almost no wind. Perfect. I just had to avoid the local security patrols, and I would be good.

The flight went just fine. It is boring, yes, but all of my maidens are. I don't want to go too high or too far. Plus I am recording this with a camera mounted to my head for the first time. I have enough going on. On the next pack, I will fly long range. It will be tomorrow. And I will not film it. I almost never do. I might hard mount a Yi camera to the quad if I can find a place though. But my experience with hard mount on this chassis, is jello, and high amounts of it.

I only test out the retracts, and two flight modes (GPS, and Attitude (Velocity)). That's is. I am happy that it flies. I have had to overcome some pretty odd stuff to get it airborne. I think it had most to do with the manner that it was disassembled, and then put back together again. But, all that is behind me. Time to put some real miles on this thing. (even though I bought it as a parts back up to my m470 (see my other videos)).

Update: Flight 2 was 1.0 miles, and Flight 3 was 1.5 miles. Used Circular Wireless Helical, and TrueRc Crosshair on a ImmersionRC Duo 5.8gHz base station, and VAS Airscrew on the m480. Not a single glitch in the video the whole way there & back. It was more like B&W video, and my FPV cam sucks. But it was very clear and I don't think I even heard the Duo switch to the Helical. Unbelievable. I think 2.5 miles might be possible on 5.8gHz.
