Tool path clearance IS A VITAL PART OF CNC router and machining work. Without keeping this at the forefront of your mind, a crash will inevitably occur and you will break router bits, endmills and potentially damage your machine.

Unfortunately, it is rarely taught, and hard to find videos on this aspect of CNC routing and machining.

I put clamping locations and strength at the top of my list when it comes to care for the cnc machine and running good parts.

It is especially important because most CNC software generates tool paths in Z before they do in XY, like vcarve, easel. If your machine is in the home position when it starts, it will move down before it moves across because of this.

Take these 4 things into account when clamping your part:
→ The outermost tool paths around your part - clamps should not be within this area
→ Z home tip position to XY start point: Nothing should be in this area
→ Clamp robustness relative to the forces and vibration imposed by the machine in the workpiece
→ Depth...will the tool fit the depth of cut, will the machine head components interfere with clamps
