Wab Kinew has doubled down on shutting out a PC MLA from speaking to his own constituents.

This weekend, Swan River MLA Rick Wowchuk was scheduled to speak at the grand opening of Swan Valley Regional Secondary School’s new cultural arts centre.

But the night before, Kinew's office called the school division board chair—Wowchuk’s brother—to insist that the MLA not be allowed to speak.

In 2023, the previous PC government invested $15 million towards the construction of the centre, funding that was advocated for by Wowchuk and secured by then-Minister Wayne Ewasko,.

The event held special significance as Rick Wowchuk was part of the school’s first graduating class and went on to teach there for 25 years.

What should have been a positive memory was soured by petty politics.

When asked by media today, not only did Kinew fail to deny the accusation, he practically gloated about blocking the MLA.

Manitobans are learning just how empty Wab’s platitudes about “One Manitoba” and “protecting democracy” really are.
