Hera Panchami is a significant festival that takes place five days after the Ratha-yatra festival in Vrindavan. It commemorates the reunion of Lord Jagannatha with the goddess of fortune, who travels from her abode to see the Lord at the Gundica temple. The word "Hera" means "to see," symbolizing the goddess of fortune's journey to behold Lord Jagannatha. The term "Panchami" refers to the fifth day of the moon, signifying the timing of this auspicious event.

During Hera Panchami, elaborate celebrations are held with great pomp and splendor to welcome the goddess of fortune and honor her visit to Lord Jagannatha. King Prataparudra emphasized the importance of holding the festival in a grand and unprecedented manner to please Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The festival involves various rituals, decorations, offerings, and musical performances to create a joyous and festive atmosphere.

As described in the scriptures, preparations for Hera Panchami include adorning the carrier of the deities with printed cloths, bells, umbrellas, and camaras. Flags and bells of different sizes are collected, and musical and dancing parties accompany the procession. Additionally, the quantity of prasadam is doubled to surpass the grandeur of the Ratha-yatra festival. The festival aims to allow Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His devotees to visit the Deity without any hindrance, fostering a sense of unity and devotion among the participants.
