Joy Reid’s Show Canceled – Major Changes at MSNBC!

MSNBC is making big changes to its primetime programming, and one of the biggest shake-ups is the cancellation of The ReidOut, Joy Reid’s 7 p.m. show. The final episode is set to air this week, according to sources familiar with the decision.
Reid, a longtime fixture at the network, took over the slot in 2020 after hosting AM Joy on weekends. Now, MSNBC is bringing in a trio of anchors to take over the hour: political commentator Symone Sanders Townsend, former RNC chair Michael Steele, and journalist Alicia Menendez. The three currently co-host The Weekend on MSNBC.

This overhaul is the first major move by MSNBC’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, who stepped into the role this month. Kutler is working on a fresh programming strategy to boost ratings, which have kept MSNBC ahead of CNN but still trailing Fox News.
More major changes are in the works. Rachel Maddow, who returned to hosting her 9 p.m. show five nights a week during the first 100 days of the Trump administration, will soon pass the baton to a new permanent host. Sources suggest former White House press secretary Jen Psaki is the leading candidate to replace Alex Wagner, who had hosted four nights a week. Wagner is expected to stay with the network in a new role.

Additionally, MSNBC is scouting fresh talent. Eugene Daniels of Politico and NYU law professor Melissa Murray are in discussions for on-air roles.
The network’s transformation comes amid a corporate restructuring by parent company Comcast, moving MSNBC under a new umbrella alongside CNBC and USA Network. While MSNBC’s new leadership is steering the ship, bigger changes could still be on the horizon.
