Just listen to Peter Hooks hooky bass hook opening this unmistakable song 'Transmission'. This majestic venue certainly put on a dazzling light show. So much so that you get to experience this first minute of throbbing lights. But when the picture gets in tune with the sound, Peter Hook emerges from the fuzzy heat and clearly puts on a fiery performance. My footage catches him passionately spitting out the words! My close up and personal footage reveals his teethy open mouth and physically strong kicks. This song was 25th in a 31 song set! Certainly an inspiration to how to and why not defy the ageing process and energetically rock on in his mid 60's! This old fan will keep rockin to Peter, as that's what we do!

This is my second post of 'Transmission' but is 18 months later when Peter Hook again returned to Aotearoa New Zealand. I again travelled to Christchurch Ōtautahi to catch him again.Joy Divisions co-founder and bassist Peter Hook with his band, Peter Hook & The Light, went on to play both New Order and Joy Division’s famed Substance compilations, sequentially and in their entirety.
.
'Transmission' was Joy Division's first great song. The track was released as a single on 7th October 1979 following the release of the band's legendary debut album 'Unknown Pleasures' that summer, but it had been written some time earlier.
Bassist Peter Hook told Radio X that the song was a milestone in the band's career. “The first time I noticed anything different was when we’d written a song that weekend. And we had a gig on the Thursday, so we thought we’d play that song at the gig, We played the new song, which was Transmission - and everyone in the whole place stopped literally what they were doing to listen and to turn round and watch us. It was an absolutely bizarre moment. It really made the hair on your arms stand up and shivers down your spine."

Personally, I have to rate this gig among my top 15 of live favourites. That's in fine company with many 'The Birthday Party' (Nick Cave) gigs, 'PIL' (Public Image Ltd, John Lydon's post 'Sex Pistols' band), 'The Clash', 'The Buzzcocks,' 'Iggy Pop', plus our own Kiwi 'Toy Love' and 'Split Enz' and even an underrated 'Magazine' amongst others. I have to obviously include 'The Grateful Living' my 3 piece London-based band where I played drums. No personal footage of all of the above so no surprises as to what drives my passion to document my current musical life and times

Lyrics of Transmission
Radio, live transmission
Radio, live transmission
Listen to the silence, let it ring on
Eyes, dark grey lenses frightened of the sun
We would have a fine time living in the night
Left to blind destruction, waiting for our sight
We would go on as though nothing was wrong
Hide from these days, we remained all alone
Staying in the same place, just staying out the time
Touching from a distance, further all the time
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio
Well I could call out when the going gets tough
The things that we've learnt are no longer enough
No language, just sound, that's all we need know
To synchronize love to the beat of the show
And we could dance
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio
