Santa Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California is part of the Mountainous Channel Island Chain. An amazing biodiverse wilderness so close yet so far from the densely populated coast. Rich with aquatic life (plankton, bioluminescence, seals, lobster, sharks, whales, octopus, garibaldi, sea turtles, kelp forests, and countless other fish, mollusks, mammals, and vegetation), the islands are a true gem of the pacific ocean. They are also an inspiring tale of conservation efforts, as the protected areas have seen many endangered species rebound or re-establish their numbers due to the hard work of many inspiring organizations. They are also spreading the love through educational programs and hands on experiences. I recently had the great privilege of spending time with the amazing people of two of these organizations ‪@OceanFuturesSociety‬ and ‪@CatalinaIslandCamps‬ and left inspired and energized to spread the love as well. If you are compelled, please look them up and learn/contribute to their missions.
