Magic: the Gathering's 4 Color Problem

The combination of 4 color cards, as introduced by the Nephilim, is one of Magic: the Gathering's least used combinations. Even falling behind 5 colors. But why is this, you would think a game like mtg would have use for any color combination. Well the truth is that even the color pie begins to show its cracks with so many colors present.
