Many people wouldn’t guess that leather is so involved in athletics, but remember that the origin of sports dates way back in history. Baseball was invented in 1839, football in 1880, boxing in 1681, basketball in 1891, equestrian in 1776, and golf in 1552.

When inventors were constructing their equipment they needed the most versatile and durable material they could find. Naturally, they turned to the one that’s been known for those characteristics for thousands of years — LEATHER!

Today there are many alternative options for what would traditionally be leather sports gear. Though these other products are often times cheaper they lack longevity and frequently don’t perform well in game (try a plastic baseball glove and you’ll believe me).

The best sports equipment requires the highest quality material, and for many products today the answer is still leather.
