After recording some different audio on the default recorder settings, I was curious whether the scenes really made much difference to the sound and e.g. how much better the recorder would pick up audio in 'lecture' mode rather than 'shirt pocket' mode.

Although people often associate dictaphones with lawyers or doctors, these devices have a wide range of uses. Sure, you can record on your phone but who wants to tie up their phone for hours at a time.

This is one of the smallest dictaphones that Sony makes which makes it a perfect choice for videographers. Slip one of these in e.g. a jacket pocket at a wedding and you'll unobtrusively be able to get audio recorded closer than you maybe otherwise could. The quality might not quite be as good as your camera mic but compared to your camera mic from 5 metres away, it's a much better solution.
