As Beijing nears its 2025 deadline to become an international innovation hub, there are fewer expats working in the city compared to a decade ago, according to a report by the Beijing International Talent Exchange Association. The report attributed the decline to various factors, including the Covid-19 pandemic and the lack of economic prospects in China’s capital. The assessment comes as China seeks to attract overseas professionals to help elevate the country in the tech value chain, and overcome Western barriers to advanced technology.
