Rape In India: Why Does India Struggle To Stop Sexual Assault & Violence Against Women? | Insight

In March, a Spanish couple was assaulted while on a motorcycle tour through India, once again bringing attention to high number of sexual violence cases in India. After the infamous Delhi Bus assault 12 years ago, known as the “Nirbhaya Case”, scores of people protested in the streets, demanding change. Stricter laws were eventually passed, and politicians promised an end to gender violence.

Yet, attacks on women continue unabated. Why does India struggle to clamp down on attacks against women? What needs to change to stop the persistence of gender violence in the country?
