Elijah strongly opposed the worship of idols in Judah. When King Ahab and his wife continued worshipping them, God delivered a message to the king through Elijah. Elijah knew that the king would punish him, so he went hiding in the desert. God performed several miracles through Elijah, and this episode shows two of them.
When Elijah returned to Judah, King Ahab challenged him to prove that his God was more powerful. Elijah accepted the challenge and he was asked to raise a fire by the priests of Baal.
