Jean Slater has been through a lot, tackling bipolar disorder and the usual heartbreaking storylines we've come to expect from EastEnders. Recently Jean has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and EastEnders writers sought out the advice of Macmillan Cancer Support's specialist advisor Dany Bell to make sure this story was told correctly, especially as mental health is also involved. Gillian Wright, who plays Jean, says she wasn't prepared to shave her head, stating both personal and logistical reasons.
