In PMP, the project management process is organized into five major groups, each consisting of multiple individual processes. These five process groups are:

Initiating Process Group: This is the first phase where the project is formally defined and authorized. Key stakeholders are identified, the business case is examined to justify the project, and the project charter is developed, which officially authorizes the project. High-level risks, constraints, and assumptions are identified at this stage.

Planning Process Group: This is where the majority of the project planning takes place. It involves defining clear and achievable objectives, determining the actions required to achieve those objectives, and developing a full suite of plans to integrate and coordinate activities. Major outputs include the project management plan and project documents, such as scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, communication, risk, and procurement management plans.

Executing Process Group: This process group involves carrying out the plans and performing the work defined in the project management plan. It's where resources are directed and managed to complete the project's deliverables. Quality assurance processes are implemented here to ensure that the project deliverables meet the required standards.

Monitoring and Controlling Process Group: This process group covers tracking, reviewing, and regulating the progress and performance of the project. It's where changes to the project are managed and controlled. This process group also involves monitoring the risks and implementing risk response plans, along with managing the flow of information among stakeholders.

Closing Process Group: This is the final process group, which involves the completion and closeout of the project. It includes finalizing all project activities, auditing the project success or failure, compiling project records, delivering the final product, releasing project resources, and archiving project documents for future reference.

It's important to remember that these process groups are not necessarily sequential — they often overlap and interact in various ways throughout the project. Some processes may also be iterative, being performed multiple times throughout the life of the project.
