Sanding Gloss Finish To Satin At The Park | Epiphone SG Jr G-310

Описание к видео Sanding Gloss Finish To Satin At The Park | Epiphone SG Jr G-310

This isn't a step-by-step. Just an excuse to test out shooting with a camera for the first time.
My brother and I went to the park to sand the gloss finish on the back and neck of his guitar to look and feel more like a matte/satin finish.
The victim: a cherry red Epiphone SG Jr G-310.

300--1500 grit sandpaper and 0000 wool was used.... for probably an hour and a half.
We thought we could get down to the wood, but there's quite a bit of gloss to sand through.

I would have liked to sand down the gloss finish on the front as well, but my brother sold this guitar last year in 2021.

If you try this, don't forget to tape off or remove the pickups. The fine steel debris will stick to the pole pieces.

Better step-by-step videos are out there with a quick search:

If you want to keep the resale/collectible value of your guitar, maybe don't take sandpaper to your guitar.
But, I think I'll be de-glossing the finish on the necks of every guitar that comes into my possession.
I prefer the de-glossed feel, and feel/playability wins over any resale/collectibility value for me.
