DETERMINATION OF BLEEDING TIME

Aim :
 To determine the bleeding time by Duke's method

 INTRODUCTION:
Bleeding time is a medical test done on someone to asses their platelets function.The bleeding time test is a method indicated when other more reliable and less invasive tests for determining coagulations are not available.however,it remains the most reliable way of assesing clinical bleeding in patients with uremia.
This test that measures how fast small blood vessels in the skin stop bleeding.The bleeding time test is used to evaluate how well a person's blood is clotting

MATERIALS REQUIRED
 Ethanol
cotton
Lancet
Capillary blood
Stop watch
Filter paper for bleeding time

 PROCEDURE
  * The filter paper was taken and fold it
The number of seconds were taken in the filter paper
*The stopwatch was set on 00:00
The finger was pricked using Lancet
The pricking point was touched immediately to 0 seconds on filter paper and the timing was started on stop watch
*After the first touch on filter paper,the above same procedure was repeated for every 30 seconds till there wasn't any presence of blood stains.do not squeeze the finger
The bleeding time was noted

 NORMAL VALUE
 25-30 seconds
