Challenging patients is essential when rehabbing from a concussion injury. This college soccer (football) goalkeeper performs a functional lower extremity activity (squatting on an unstable platform) while incorporating a cognitive task with visual conflict. The task is moving his head from side to side and reading the color of a word instead of the word itself. The card contains multiple words and multiple colors. He finishes the exercise after reading all the words (colors).

He is performing this exercise to challenge his vestibular system to help improve his post-concussive symptoms. Multidimensional components may be necessary to challenge his vestibular system effectively, leading to adaptation and improved performance playing his sport.

Effective and efficient rehab is criterion-based, not time-based.
